Controversies

A controversy may or may not be brewing in Gaithersburg over a former dairy farm that was left to Johns Hopkins University after its owners death. The heirs of Elizabeth Beall Banks, the land's prior owner, have filed suit to block the plan that JHU has proposed saying it ignores her wishes to preserve as much of the land as possible and build buildings that are reserved for academic space not residences. After a few articles published about this, the PR rep for Johns Hopkins contacted the Post and tried to say that there weren't any plans to build housing on the land without actually committing to any firm statements about whether or not they would build residential buildings. Click over for an amusing transcript of a PR person trying to say nothing and something at the same time. [WaPo; WaPo; WaPo]
