Rowe Furniture, Zero Energy America Team Up to Bring Sustainability to PBS Documentary
Rowe Furniture provides sustainable furnishings to zero energy home builder in 2012 film

November 10, 2011 (McLean, VA) – Rowe Fine Furniture, a leading manufacturer of custom upholstered furniture, announced their sponsorship and inclusion in the documentary film Zero Energy America.

Zero Energy America (ZEA) is a project which explores the social, economical and environmental reasons behind building extremely green, zero-energy homes. Through utilizing eco-friendly materials and new building techniques, these homes will contribute little, if any, to an electricity bill, hence the “zero energy” concept.

Marc Rutenberg Homes, the creator of the ZEA movement, has partnered with Bluewater Media, a preeminent film production company, to produce the documentary film Zero Energy America. The film follows the building of the homes including the trials and tribulations associated with utilizing new techniques and materials. Zero Energy America tells a story of sustainability in the housing industry - of what's happening now and what will come next.

Rowe Furniture will outfit two of the four homes with custom upholstery. Rowe was selected because of their commitment to sustainability in the furnishings industry. With the launch of the EcoRowe initiative, Rowe established both eco-friendly manufacturing and sustainable product development processes throughout its company. All woods are sustainably harvested from domestic, replenished forests. Rowe’s eco-cushion core contains plant-based, renewable materials which replaced significant amounts of petroleum-based materials used in standard foam cushions. All of Rowe’s furniture is made in America, significantly eliminating much of the transportation energy emissions associated with traveling over oceans and continents.

"We are so honored to be a part of ZEA and their documentary," said Stefanie Lucas, President/CEO of Rowe Furniture. "We practice sustainability in every aspect of our manufacturing. We are founding members of the Sustainable Furnishings Council and are thrilled to be a part of such a prolific film which highlights the sustainable housing practices we have come to foster within our industry."

The film will also include research centers and specialists in the industry of green technology to learn what advances we can expect in the future. PBS is set to air the documentary in early 2012.
