Restaurant Maps Galore; Obamas Dine at Restaurant Eve

This week's top dish from Eater DC, Curbed's restaurant, bar, and nightlife blog...

EVERYWHERE—This was a big week for maps: Eater dropped an updated version of its list of 38 essential Washington restaurants, along with an updated map of the hottest restaurants in DC right now. But that's not all — there's a bonus heat map of DC brunches that are getting the most buzz right now.

OLD TOWN ALEXANDRIA—The Obamas celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary week and, like so many couples before them, chose Restaurant Eve for the special occasion. Chef Cathal Armstrong was so excited he forgot to turn off the stove before he left home.

COLLEGE PARK—Celebrity chef Bobby Flay is opening up the second DC-area location of his fast-casual concept Bobby's Burger Palace next week.

DUPONT CIRCLEShake Shack debuts its annual Shacktoberfest in DC today, meaning brats on burgers and Apfelstrudel-flavored shakes. Eater's got the full menu.

VIDEO INTERLUDE—The DC and Philadelphia chapters of a monthly latte art competitive group are going head-to-head on October 20 to see who can make the prettiest doodles in your coffee cup. And, keeping it classy, a group of amusing local baristas have made a video in which they talk coffee-snob smack about the City of Brotherly Love.

EATER IN THE EMBASSY—The latest installment of Eater in the Embassy focuses on Alfonso Carton, a Spanish chef who works in the kitchen of the Embassy of Argentina. He discusses what it was like getting the gig, how he learned Argentine cuisine and what he thinks of DC's abundance of tapas restaurants.
