Meatballs For Penn Quarter; Jaleo Plans Renovation

This week's top dish from Eater DC, Curbed's restaurant, bar, and nightlife blog...

PENN QUARTER—The big news this week was that Michel Richard — the James Beard Award-winning chef behind Citronelle, Central and Michel at Tysons Corner — is opening up a meatball shop in Penn Quarter. A manager for the forthcoming restaurant gives Eater some menu details and confirms it should be opening up soon. And, indeed, Meatballs has already raised its neon pink signage (which amusingly places an emphasis on the balls).

PENN QUARTER—Spanish chef José Andrés announced this week that he's going to be giving Jaleo's downtown location a makeover early next year, "moving away from the Flamenco dancer and more to a Dali-like, modern, provocative look."

EVERYWHERE—Eater has been tracking the presidential dining habits over the last eight months or so and has compiled a handy Obama Heat Map of the restaurants where Barack and Michelle Obama are eating these days.

ADAMS MORGAN—Atlanta-based pizza chain Mellow Mushroom opened in Adams Morgan this week in a three-level space with a roof deck and a decor that's based on a circus theme.

CLARENDON—As of October 31, Harry's Tap Room will undergo a three-week renovation that will transform the restaurant into something called Market Tavern. Owner Michael Sternberg says he decided to split from the restaurant's hospitality group because he'd rather be a restaurateur than a corporate executive.
