There is less than a week left to vote on which Washington, D.C.-based architecture firms are the best of the best, so be sure to cast your vote asap. Hosted by the Washington, D.C. chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA|DC), the 2015 Chapter Design People's Choice Award recognizes a variety of categories, including Urban Design and Master Planning, Historic Resources, Interior Architecture, and Architecture. There are a total 24 projects featured in the contest, which include Shalom Baranes Associates with City Market at O, Gensler with the Washington 2024 Olympic bid master plan, Travis Price Architects with The Crossing, and Studio 27 Architecture and LEO A DALY with La Casa. The purpose of the award is to raise awareness of the architectural talent found here in the District, according to Bisnow. By promoting local talent, there is hope that more out-of-town developers will rely on local firms for design work in Washington, D.C.
In order to cast your vote, you will have to like one photo from this AIA|DC Facebook photo gallery. Be sure to only like one photo as multiple likes will be disqualified. If you don't have a Facebook account, you can still vote through the organization's online survey. The voting will close at 12 p.m. EST on Monday, November 23. The winners will be revealed at an awards reception at the District Architecture Center on November 23.
Besides the People's Choice Award, AIA|DC is also hosting an Instagram contest and plans on running a series of ads in the ArchitectureDC magazine in order to further promote local firms. Washington Business Journal reported that AIA|DC has no plans on pushing legislation or other incentives to encourage developers on utilizing local architects.
